Rotary supports Scouts!

Nearly 100 Boys Scouts attended a merit badge clinic Saturday at Hephzibah Baptist Church that was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Waynesboro to help youth work toward the coveted rank of Eagle Scout.

The clinic offered a variety of merit badges, including seven that are required to earn the Boy Scouts of America’s highest rank of Eagle. These badges taught citizenship, communication, first-aid, emergency preparedness and personal management skills. Elective merit badges offered taught art, law, traffic safety and welding skills.

The clinic was jointly held by the Rotary Club of Waynesboro and the BSA’s Creek River District. Scouts region-wide attended the event, including youth from Richmond, Columbia, Aiken, Burke and Jenkins counties.

Scouts said their favorite part about the event was earning merit badges in a setting outside of summer camp. The BSA and Rotary Club of Waynesboro hope to partner to organize similar events in the future.

Scouts wrote this news release and took pictures of the event to fulfill a requirement for Communication Merit Badge, which is required to become an Eagle Scout.
