Scout Me In!

We are about three weeks from the start of school! That means it is time for the district and its packs to start preparing for the fall sign-up season.

This season will feature some exciting changes. In the fall, all the district's packs will welcome kindergarten-age youth to join as Lions and about one-third of our units will allow girls to join its ranks through the Family Scouting program.

Fall is an exciting time for our packs because it is the start of a new program year in which we get to welcome new youth into our dens to instill in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law!

I am also excited to report that Creek River District and most of its packs have positioned itself to obtain a gold rating in Journey to Excellence if it obtains membership growth in Cub Scouts. We need about 350 new Cub Scouts as a district to reach this goal. This is very doable.

Last year, during the fall, the district recruited about 250 new Cub Scouts. This year, with Lions going full time and the addition of girls, I am confident that the district's packs can together recruit 350 new Cub Scouts. Each unit is asked to set a recruiting goal based on its efforts last year. If you need help, I am here to assist.

In order to hit this goal, we need to make sure we are prepared to welcome new families. All packs are encourage to please email wesley.brown@scouting.org with the following information:

  • The date your pack tentatively plans to hold its fall sign-up date. Please see below for school start dates for each county.
  • Contact information (phone and email) to appear on flyers for interested families to contact.
  • Whether you or a pack representative will attend the district recruiting workshop at 7 p.m. on July 24 at Hephzibah United Methodist Church. At this event, each pack will get its flyers, sign-up packet and customized handouts for your sign-up night.
The theme of this year’s fall recruiting campaign is “Scout Me In,” and the joining gift for new Cubs are bungee rockets. The sign-up manual will be distributed and reviewed in detailed at the recruiting workshop.

As always, I am here to help and guide. Please ask questions if you have them.
